Counseling for Trauma

Most people will experience trauma in their lifetime whether it’s a car accident, abuse or neglect, the sudden death of a loved one, a violent criminal act, exposure to the violence of war, or a natural disaster.

While many people can recover from trauma over time with the love and support of family and friends and bounce back with resiliency, others may discover the effects of lasting trauma, which can cause a person to live with deep emotional pain, fear, confusion, or posttraumatic stress far after the event has passed.

In these circumstances, the support, guidance, and assistance of a therapist are fundamental to healing from trauma.

Trauma Symptoms

According to the four types of symptoms listed in the DSM-5.

Avoidance Symptoms

  • Avoiding specific locations, sights, situations, and sounds that serve as reminders of the event
  • Anxiety, depression, numbness, or guilt

Re-experiencing Symptoms

  • Intrusive thoughts, nightmares, or flashbacks

Hyperarousal Symptoms

  • Anger, irritability, and hypervigilance
  • Aggressive, reckless behavior, including self-harm
  • Sleep disturbances

Negative Mood and Cognition Symptoms

  • Loss of interest in activities that were once considered enjoyable
  • Difficulty remembering details of the distressing event
  • Change in habits or behavior since the trauma

Research has proven psychotherapy to be one of the most effective forms of treatment for trauma. At Recovery Pathway Counseling, LLC we use a combination of therapy techniques such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy).  At Recovery Pathway Counseling, LLC we have a certified ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy) therapist and this therapy modality has been known to resolve PTSD symptoms completely with one 60-90 minute session.

What Is ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy)?

Using unique visualization techniques and how the body is affected by distressing images or memories, ART enhances rapid eye movements similar to eye movements during dreaming.

ART allows a client to erase old images and rewrite their story through reconsolidation, changing the physiological response to the memory.

ART is recognized as a peer reviewed evidenced-based treatment for psychological trauma, developed to treat adults and children.

ART not only works with trauma but also OCD, anxiety, depression, addiction, family issues, phobias, performance anxiety, low self-esteem, grief, codependency, pain management, job related stress, memory enhancement, and relationship issues.

ART can be done in one 60-90 minute session and does resolve issues within one ART session.  Many clients have had years of therapy in the past and tried ART and their issues had been resolved within one ART session.

ART was created by Laney Rosenzweig, LMFT and at the bottom of this page is a link to hear her explanation of ART and client testimonials on her TEDxSpringfield talk.

If you are interested in ART please give Recovery Pathway Counseling, LLC a call or complete the contact form.  If you only want ART sessions for one 90 minute session the cost is $200.00.
